 Assessment and Evaluation

Magnified Loupes Glasses: These glasses magnify and provide high intensity light to enable Dr. Reich to see better while detecting cavities and making sure all decay is gone prior to placing fillings.

At your examination visits of course we will assess your needs as to any fillings and restorative work that are required. We do not stop there as I will assess your general health, bite and TMJ and also your risk of getting future cavities. Once your risk is assessed we will make recommendations on prevention, diet, hygiene frequency and use of antibacterial agents. At all times I will attempt to become part of the answer to living in a state of dental health.

In all the dental operatories we have monitors/HD TV mounted on the ceilings. With my intra-oral camera system I can take you for a tour of your mouth like you have never seen it before. I am a firm believer in “seeing is believing”, and once you can see what I see the treatment plan is very easy to understand.

Radiology

Digital X-Ray System: Our digital X-Ray system not only provides high resolution x-ray images, but at a much lower radiation dose than older film. Digital x-rays use about one third the radiation as conventional x-rays. All images are easily viewed on our large computer monitors located in every operatory. Copies can be emailed, printed easily and blown up and viewed digitally for better diagnostics.

Hygiene

Employed at my office are a full time Hygienist and also three Level II RDA’s with their Scaling module. This means if you need a cleaning we will be able to get you in for an appointment quickly and expedite your maintenance care.

Restorative

Fillings: White, Silver and new to our office is Colored Fillings (pink, orange, green, blue, yellow, and silver sparkle)

Veneers: These are restorations for small teeth whereby it is not desirable to reduce all the way around the tooth like a crown and is often done for cosmetic reasons.

Crowns: with CEREC AC: Crowns are restorations that encase single teeth. These restorations strengthen the tooth and are often required on a tooth that has a large filling or a root canal. Until recently this was a two appointment procedure as we employed a laboratory to make the crown. But since 2009 we have been using our Cerec machine which has changed it into a one appointment procedure!

Before

After

CEREC is a machine that can make a crown in the office, using 3D photography, crowns can be made in a single appointment with the patient, rather than the multiple appointments required with old techniques.

The crown is first photographed and stored as a three dimensional digital model. We then “design” your new crown on the computer. When the model is complete a milling machine carves the actual crown out of a ceramic block using diamond head cutters under computer control. The restoration is then stained and glazed and ready to cement in the mouth in about an hour. This means no second needle or second appointment. I even have four Cerec crowns in my mouth, custom made and designed right here in my office.

With CEREC
• Only one appointment necessary
• No messy impressions
• No temporaries
• No unsightly metal with just as much clinical strength
• Beautiful, extremely durable, tooth-colored restorations
• Clinically proven biocompatibility
• Conservative procedure – more healthy tooth structure retained

Bridges: Bridges are a permanent, cemented restoration that “fills in the gap” between teeth. This is a two appointment procedure as our Cerec, as of yet, does not have the capacity to make bridges.

Before

After

Pedodontics (Dentistry for Children)

I have taken courses that are intensive in anesthetics and mild sedation. This in most instances allows parents to save on costly and time consuming referrals to the city for general anesthetic. Parents and/or guardians are encouraged to be present at the appointments.

Dentures

This is the service of providing full dentures or partial dentures with or without the additional aid and retention of implants. I have delivered many thousand dentures in the last twenty plus years. Full dentures are full mouth restorative work and I cut no corners with this aspect of dentistry. This is at least a four appointment procedure as it is a challenging discipline and it takes time and experience to get it right. Patients should be aware the extra effort is required as excessive bone loss after many years can be a challenge.

Micro Dentistry

Air Abrasion Unit
:  If cavities are very small and in a spot that is easy to reach my office employs an air abrasion system (Prepstar TM). This allows me to remove decay and fill without freezing. The kids love it and describe it as “quick and easy!”

Air abrasion has many advantages for both the dentist and the patient. It is silent, fast, and cost effective. It produces no “burning” odors, no hand piece whine, no vibration, no pressure and no heat. Multiple areas can be treated in a single visit and most often it can be use without any freezing.

Some of the advantages to using dental air abrasion include that it:
• Eliminates the need for freezing.
• Doesn't produce the burning smell associated with drilling
• Generates no hand piece whine, heat, pressure or vibration, which are the common complaints about the conventional drill
• Leaves more of the tooth intact
• Leaves the treated area of the tooth relatively dry, making sealants and filings bond better
• Reduces the risk of micro-fracturing, a problem sometimes caused by drilling.

Endodontics ( Root Canals)

When the inside of your tooth becomes infected or abscesed. This infection must be cleaned out and filled to save a tooth. And often I will recommend crowning that tooth to keep it strong. I have taken many courses on ultrasonic cleaning (debridement) and shaping of the canal system. As of June 2011 laser cleaning of the canal system will be available at my office. I employ state of the art thermoplastic filling of the canals with our System B TM and Obtura TM. Using the most advanced one use only Vortex TM nickel titanium files. For advanced micro-surgical Endodontics I employ magnification, microsurgical hand piece with MTA TM filling material to perform retrograde fillings (surgically placing and filling at the end of a root.)

I do both front and back teeth root canals and have a very high success rate with root canals (98%+). However all should know that root canals can fail, files can break even with one use protocols, roots can split, and uncrowned root canalled teeth can fracture. I always try to do right by the patient, but its best to always place a crown on a root canal treated tooth and maintain that crown.

Anesthesia (Dental Freezing)

THE STA (single tooth anesthesia) “The WAND”: The STA can numb a single tooth at a time. We can use this on every child and adult upon request. The machine puts the freezing in slow and controlled which reduces pain associated with needle injections. Our patients love this! Request the WAND at your next visit to try the difference!

Whitening Systems

As many are well aware dental whitening can be accomplished in several ways.

1. At Home Whitening Trays: Home trays with supplied agent. This system is slower but a sure way to whiten and often causes the least amount of sensitivity.

2. Zoom ( In Office Whitening): This treatment can take about an hour and results in a nice, white smile which is at least 10 shades lighter. This is complimented with the home trays for afterwards for touch ups to the whitening over time and for a special medication that decreases post operative sensitivity.

3. Laser Whitening: Coming soon to our dental office. It claims to be as fast as zoom, but without the sensitivity. (We will soon see about that.)

Orthodontics

To achieve better alignment and a more harmonious bite. Most often seen in adolescent children however I have completed many adult cases.

Invisalign Preferred Provider: Dr. Reich is recognized as an Invisalign Preferred Provider, which demonstrates our commitment to learning the latest in technology advances through continuing education. Patients can be confident that the treatment we provide will result in the outcomes they expect due to your proficiency and expertise to design treatment plans specific for their needs. Patients can see a 3D model of the final outcome before treatment even starts!

SPEED Wire Braces: SPEED Braces are straight wire braces that do not require elastics, which make them 4 times faster than conventional type! Braces are also smaller, which makes keeping them clean easier and more comfortable for the patient! Dr. Reich has completed his orthodontic course and has successfully completed many cases with the speed system.

Laser Dentistry

Soft Tissue - Siro Laser TM: The Siro Laser is a valuable tool in our office that we have used for many years in lieu of a scalpel. Minor gum surgeries can be done with this laser with no stitching and no bleeding. It is also used for cosmetic crown and bridge cases, disinfection of root canal systems, and removal of oral lesions.

Hard Tissue – Biolaze TM: New to our office June 2011; this may allow me to perform restorative dentistry like fillings without any needles! This implication may be huge; we shall see.

Electric Hand Pieces

For those patients who hate the "drilling sound", we have ultra quiet electric hand pieces in every room which are much quieter and give off less vibration during treatment.

Sterilization

Miele Washer-Disinfector: To increase sterilization techniques we also have a washer-disinfector to pre-clean all instruments before sterilization, at a high heat, to remove debris and blood and ensure we achieve the best quality of sterilization possible.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is a service offered for our nervous patients upon request.

In Case of Emergency

In case of emergency we have on hand our Sun Tech 247 to read patient’s temperature, blood pressure and pulse. We keep stocked a kit with all emergency medication and a defibrillator in office. Should an emergency arise we are well equipped and appropriately trained, to provide quality care.
